Jack Welch (X-chairman and ceo of GE) came to MIT campus on April 26th; Sharing some quotes from him :)

[1] Always keep your options open; Jack was interviewing with other companies even after he got promoted to vice chairman of GE.

[2] The concept of "great leaders are lonely" is not true; Be friends with your employees; When you are the big boss, everyone sucks up to you; Jack: "all of the sudden, my jokes became funny"..people started liking me"...media thought if I have a hand on something..it gotta be big..."

[3] Managers needs to communicate with employees on how exactly "change" will benefit them: Quote - "for example more pay or more growth...u cant give everything.. but make sure u be transparent and give something..
we work to get benefitted somehow... remember this".

[4] Student: "when do we look for money and when do we look job for a purpose..in general which is more important?"
Jack: "Both are important; and if you want money with no purpose, go into Wall St."

[5] Quote - "Dont ever drift with the crowd; always try to stand out; you dont spend money in the top school to comprise... make a difference"

[6] Admitting your mistake is hard, but its very important for a leader to do so; Jack gives the example how a MLB first base umpire made a bad call and cost Galarraga a Perfect Game..i dont know about this......

[7] Jack was blunt and said - "Lay offs has to be done of inefficient people.. We are not like GM, government motors :) hehe"
